General Information



Date and Location:
The 10th International Symposium on Applied Bioinorganic Chemistry (ISABC 10) is organized by the Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry of the University of Debrecen and will be held in Debrecen, Hungary between 25th and 28th of September, 2009. The Meeting will be opened in the late afternoon of September 25 (Friday) and ended by the Closing Banquet in the evening of September 28 (Monday). The scientific program will take place in the Kölcsey Convention Centre located behind the main square of the city. This is the second largest and most modern Conference Center in Hungary.

Scope and History of the Symposium:
The symposium will be the 10th event of a successful series of highly ranked Meetings on Applied Bioinorganic Chemistry. Its subjects cover all major fields of bioinorganic chemistry with a special emphasis on the medical, industrial and environmental applications of the most recent results of bioinorganic chemistry. The previous five symposia were organized in Corfu (Greece), Cardiff (Wales), Guanajuato (Mexico), Hong Kong (China) and Naples (Italy).

Debrecen is the second largest town in Hungary with a population of slightly over 200 000 inhabitants. It is located in the Eastern part of the country in a distance of 220 km from the capital, Budapest. Debrecen is the cultural, educational and scientific centre of the region with a rich history in the past.

The University of Debrecen
The history of the University of Debrecen goes back to the foundation of the Reformed College of Debrecen (1538), of which three academic sections later served as the base for the Hungarian Royal University of Sciences, created by Statute no. XXXVI. in 1912. With this past of more than 450 years, the University of Debrecen is the oldest institution of higher education in Hungary with continuous operation located in the same city. The University of Debrecen has a student enrolment of 29,000, out of which 19,000 are full-time students. More than 1400 instructors teach at the University, making it one of the largest higher education institutions in Hungary. Its 11 university and 4 college faculties, and 21 doctoral schools undoubtedly offer the widest choice of majors and other forms of training.
